Overview of Basketball Camps

4th Quarter Shots offers dynamic, 6-day basketball camps designed to empower youth through intensive training and personal development. Each camp provides a unique blend of basketball skills training, mentorship, and life lessons, ensuring participants leave with improved athletic abilities and a stronger sense of self-worth. The camps culminate in an exciting ‘King of the Court’ competition, where participants showcase their skills in a friendly yet competitive environment. The program is fully inclusive and free of charge, breaking down barriers to access so that every child, regardless of their financial situation, can experience top-tier coaching and mentorship.

Camp Details

Locations: The camps are held at various courts in underserved neighborhoods across Houston, including Spring, Cypress, Aldine, and Northeast Houston. Each camp targets a specific area to maximize reach and accessibility.
Dates and Times: The camps run for six days during the summer, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with an all-day event on the final day featuring the ‘King of the Court’ competition.
Age Groups and Capacity: Open to boys and girls aged 10-18, each camp can accommodate up to 50 participants, ensuring personalized attention and effective training.
Volunteers: A minimum of 10 volunteers aged 21 and older assist with camp operations, providing support and mentorship to the participants.

Training Components

  1. Fundamentals:
    Participants will learn essential skills like triple threat moves, form shooting, and other basic techniques crucial to building a strong basketball foundation.
  2. Ball Handling:
    This component focuses on drills designed to enhance ball control and confidence, helping players to handle the ball effectively under pressure.
  3. Shooting:
    Training covers various shooting techniques, including off-the-dribble shots and catch-and-shoot scenarios, to improve accuracy and consistency.
  4. Defense:
    Players will be taught defensive strategies, such as on-ball and off-ball defense, help defense, zone coverage, and man-to-man techniques, including full and half-court press.
  5. Conditioning/Strength:
    This section includes endurance exercises, explosive drills, and speed training to boost physical fitness, stamina, and overall athletic performance.
  6. Footwork:
    Drills focusing on balance, positioning, and agility will help participants improve their footwork, essential for both offensive and defensive play.
  7. Basic Basketball I.Q.:
    Through reenacting real game scenarios, players will enhance their decision-making skills, learning to read the game and make smarter plays.
